The Brief

The clients wanted to fundamentally change how their Victorian terrace worked — not simply adding space, but rethinking the entire home. The project scope encompassed both a significant extension and a thorough internal refurbishment, covering every room in the house including bathrooms, bedrooms and the main living areas. The result is a home that feels entirely new while retaining the solid, characterful bones of its Victorian origins.

Extension Strategy

DPE Architecture developed a dual-extension approach to maximise the available footprint:

Side Extension — utilising the underused side of the plot to widen the ground floor and unlock a more generous, functional plan

Rear Extension — pushing back into the garden to create expanded kitchen, dining and living accommodation with a strong connection to the outdoor space

Together, the two extensions significantly increase the usable floor area of the home, resolving the typical spatial constraints of the Victorian terrace typology and creating a layout that genuinely suits contemporary family life.

Full Whole-House Refurbishment

Alongside the extension work, DPE Architecture oversaw a complete internal refurbishment throughout the property, including:
