New Build Contemporary House

An unloved and overlooked backland plot in the Hertfordshire countryside has become the setting for one of our latest residential new build projects.

DPE Architecture was commissioned by the client to design a small, detached two-bedroom home on this challenging rural site. The proposed design makes use of natural and sustainable materials that blend seamlessly with the surrounding landscape — including charred timber cladding and a sedum green roof.

Our aim was to create a scheme that respects the rural character of the area while preserving key countryside views and enhancing the natural setting.

DPE Architecture was appointed to deliver full architectural design services, and the project is currently at the planning stage.

Situated in the Buckinghamshire countryside, this small family terraced house enjoys a fantastic location overlooking trees and fields. DPE Architecture was commissioned to transform what had become an awkward and cramped home for an expanding family.

The clients wanted to maximize space while incorporating innovative architectural interventions wherever possible. Our design included a side extension and a loft conversion with a large L-shaped dormer, creating a new master suite and bathroom.

The layout of the house was completely reimagined, removing existing constraints to achieve a light-filled, open-plan living space. The clients were particularly drawn to a contemporary design with industrial influences, emphasizing the honest use of materials throughout the home.

DPE Architecture was appointed to deliver full architectural design services, and the project is currently in the early design stages.

Family Home Extension and Loft Conversion | Buckinghamshire

Thatched Cottage Extension in the Countryside | Hertfordshire

This small thatched cottage in the countryside required additional living space and a stronger connection to the terrace and garden.

After a lengthy planning process, DPE Architecture successfully delivered an extension that fully met the client’s vision, enhancing both the functionality and aesthetic of the home while respecting its traditional charm.

The project showcases our expertise in sensitive countryside renovations, creating a seamless link between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Zealand Road

A late Victorian terraced house situated just off the Roman Road near East London’s Victoria Park. The house, located in a conservation area demanded a respectful approach to its renovation. DPE Architecture were approached by the clients who were looking to get the most out of the house and adapt it to fit in 
with the needs of their ever-growing family. We remodeled the house, adding a side extension and mansard roof extension. This included designed a contemporary new stair extending up through the house, fitted joinery, glass roof, reclaimed flooring and much more. DPE Architecture completed full design services including contract administration and overseeing construction. The 
project was a huge success with the clients very happy with their new family home.

Victorian Terraced House extension & loft conversion | East London

Barnmead Road

This period Victorian house full of character, located on a picturesque South London street, was struggling with limited natural light and a complicated, non-functional ground floor layout.

DPE Architecture was appointed to reimagine the layout. Our design included a small side and rear extension while opening up the interior to create a largely open-plan living space. The result is a bright, functional home enjoyed by the clients and their dogs, seamlessly blending period character with contemporary living.
